The Apostle Paul and other apostles like timothy tried to advice us Christians bout pple who will come nd claim that the word of God is an untruth.
After seeing so much criticism bout the word of God in this forum I thought may b I shld enlighten you. Its contrary to the enlightening given by vicar. All these criticisms of the word of God are not good for us children of God. The Apostle Paul said Colossians 2:4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
You know at first glance you may think these arguments they present are valid. I like what the Apostle Paul calls them fine-sounding arguments. To Christians who are ignorant they may b easily deceived by these arguments.
In these verses the apostles were advising Christians not to give an ear to these criticisms. They where also warning the unbelievers who criticized the word of God.
Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ
2 Timothy 2: 16-19
16Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. 19Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his,"[a] and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
2 Timothy 2: 23-26
23Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

I know that I'm supposed to forguve my enemies and pray for them, without degrading or abusing them. In my last post, I'd just reached a finality with that foolish person. He went too far in his comments about Christians being told to eat feces, etc.
I pray for forgiveness every night. My Lord knows my heart and also knows my faulures. I believe He is helping me to correct my ways and to become more as one with Him.
Good post, by the way.

hello thaticova

the question is :
why did the author of the bible wrote genealogy of jesus at the first page of the gospel of Matthew if it were useless and unprofitable ?
so the one who cooked up the bible did not practice what he preached,

I assume this topic was started by a fundamentalist who rejects the roman catholic premise of Papal INFALLIBILITY, LOLOL praise Martin Luther!
Criticism is THE ONLY way to improve a situation or theory or design. To make a rule restricting critique is an indication of the shaky foundation that the proponent plan is based on. It is the tool of totalitarianism. All religions say, "this is the way for ever and ever, and anyone who questions it shall be shunned, killed, sent to hell, burn forever... etc" Little difference from Hitler or Stalin. Putting it in a book saying god said it doesn't make it right, or truthful. Every god is a totalitarian... good thing they are imaginary.
The MOST beautiful thing about science is the total acceptance of observable fact based critique. The same for Art, which is open and invites critique.
So lets divide the world between people who question and critique the theories and accept provable facts, call it reality; and dogmatic slaves of invisible beings declaring "what god told them" to tell everybody how to think WITHOUT QUESTION.
Although its OK to do throughout the bible, somehow slavery is (nowadays) bad, but willing slaves of god is OK?!?! Somehow its the willingness that makes it OK.. Paul was and still is a Roman tax collector who fell off his horse, cracked his head and saw god.. good grief. Every single word he wrote was to CONTROL other people, especially if they were happy and successful. The only way he could be a kind of caesar, was to be a priest in a cult where the real Caesar (or somebody else) wasn't already in charge. Invisible or dead bosses are the best!
I have no problem with this since I know some people are smarter than others. I don't believe in universal equality in intellectual matters, just like I don't think all people are equally healthy, or physically strong. I see religion as a system to control masses of gullible people by a clique of people who "get it" and work the system to their advantage. Its easier to be a preacher, like Paul or Jesus, than to be Caesar, if you were born a slave. I'm positive a lot of these preacher/priest/rabbi/mullahs are just people who want to lay down their law to other people by threatening them with eternal damnation.. Its a control issue right down to the bare-assed altar boys taking it deep for Jesus. And on a personal individual basis, christians/jews/muslims toward eveyone who isn't, they even have a word for them: heretic.
Control cannot stand critique, and scripture does what it can to stop it with standing rules that if they are broken, commit you to hell.. and call it love.. Papal infallibilty, biblical infallibility, quranic infallibility, once you use and accept that premise, you are willingly a part of a totalitarian state and must accept the historic FACTS of that movement. Like somebody today joining the Nazis, although they didn't make a lampshade out of a jew (with a wink from Pope Pius) they are just as guilty as if they did. Burn any witches lately?
Now check this out.. what if instead of god or the bible we instead say eSnips. No complaints! This is the way it is and if you don't like it leave. Anyone who complains too loudly will be ignored. We order you to be nice just because we say so... God, eSnips.. they both have about equal authority, and actually eSnips has more here. What if they shut down the suggestions/complaint dept because critique was not allowed.. LOL
