A Native Bird of South Africa the Australian Peach faced Lovebird is a sought after Aviary bird but adapts well to indoor living, providing they have the run of the house.
Lovebirds are usually purchased finger trained from local pets suppliers and are assured to be healthy birds.
They adapt very easily to children and will often sit on their owners shoulders nibbling their hair.
A well trained Peach face can do a variety of tricks, one of the favorite ones is to play dead. If given the command, the bird will roll onto it's back with both feet up in the air, and will lay there until told to get up.
This always requires a treat when they perform, but if the treat is not forthcoming, they can become very vocal about not being paid, and will keep it up until the treat arrives.
Very friendly and can be house trained easily and can be trained to use a sheet of newspaper for their toilet. However keep your eyes on the newspaper otherwise they will tear it to shreds the minute your back is turned. The lifespan varies according to health issues, but some have been known to live around the 18 years mark.
