Sorry, but that's rubbish. I've done some testing, and all you have to do to vote multiple times is delete your cookies after each vote. Even if you were matching votes with IP addresses (which I assume you're not), few people have a static IP address anyway - and for the more technically savvy there are many ways to spoof IP/MAC addresses.

My computer programmer husband offered to write a script to give me 100000 votes just to prove the point. But of course I declined! Why further invalidate the voting? Despite the fact that we have people in the competition with hundreds of votes purely out of national solidarity or a wide social circle, there are others that I think are doing well because they actually have talent.

I don't quite understand why esnips didn't make voting open to members only. I think it's the only way that you can ensure each vote is genuine. Of course you'll have people with 30 e-mail addresses who will sign up a new profile for each one to vote 30 times, but in the majority you really would have only one vote per person.

When registration is free and straightforward, why wouldn't people sign up? And surely esnips would like more members? It seems strange that esnips didn't realise this great opportunity to bring more members to the site.

All that being said - I don't want to sound like I have a bad case of sour grapes because I really don't. I think the voting process has a lot of room for improvement but I still am very grateful that esnips is offering the opportunity to compete and have our music heard by a wider audience - and I hope more competitions happen in the future.

hi liv and everyone -
with your post you have about proved our point, about every system being able to be manipulated, but no one is doing it - liv's husband offered her a program, and she declined! other people are as principled as this, dont you think?

even if we had asked people to register, it still could have been manipulated, you showed a way to do so in your post...which would be time consuming, and nit-picky, just like i said someone would have to be in order to manipulate things.

the spin off is for your enjoyment, and to give you a chance to promote yourselves...use the track widgets and the video widget, and let people know you are here - its part of the fun!

Lonnie of course you are right, any system can be manipulated to one degree or another, and if everyone had to register to vote then yes, it would (and should) take a lot of time and effort to manipulate the system. But it doesn't at the moment, that's my point. Currently it's extremely easy and quick to vote as many times as you like and requires only a rudimentary knowledge of how a browser works. How do you know that "no one is doing it??" It only takes one vote more than anyone else to win. And if all you want out of this competition is some feedback on your skills (as I do), if the voting is skewed then you won't even get that accurately.

I don't know if there actually is any cheating going on, but some people will cheat just because they can. Because they're competitive and don't actually care if they deserve it. I think it's naive to think that in a group of nearly 100 competitors there won't be at least a few of those people. Sure, most people have principles, but some don't. When it's easy to cheat, some will.

We noticed for example, Heru Iqbal and gyz182 were receiving an amount of votes that many of us considered disproportionate to the quality of their mixes. I am not saying they are cheating, but it was this occurrence that got my thought processes going:

"They either have a LOT of friends, or they're cheating."
"Is it possible to cheat?"
"Yes it is, quite easily"
"OK then...."

Heru has said that he just advertised himself really well in Indonesia and so he's had lots of his countrymen vote for him - well fine, it's not really in the spirit of the competition but it's not cheating.

We all know that the Spin Off was just intended to be a bit of fun, but no-one likes a cheater, even in a friendly game. I think even the suspicion that we're not competing on a level playing field discourages some people from entering and/or voting.

Now. I've said what I want to say and I'm now going to shut up and go back to enjoying the music now. There are many worthy artists here.

Peace.

the same thing happened last year with the singers competition...exactly the same way...emails were sent back then to efrat and the admin team....strangely enough after it all being blown out how peeps were cheating basically they did say they were going to check the voting

in the end the right person won the competition but it caused a bit of bad feeling and peeps kinda thought why bother.

Where's ma bloody fluffies!
