Life for an artist, at times can be extremely hard
But I try to make do with the few things I possess
The little flat I have, in this neighborhood, one has to always be on guard
But my passion for art, well that's how I got into this mess.

At times I don't even have enough money for food
Even though I'm hungry, it seems like I always survive
For me to paint, I always have to be in a certain mood
I need to find a special inspiration, so I can paint a masterpiece, then I know money, like always I will survive.

On this night, I found five dollars in one of my old coats
So at least I will have food on this foggy, very cold night
Outside the rain starts to fall so hard, I bet in a while I could float
On my way to a restaurant, I must stop, as I see a beautiful sight.

I see a woman, more beautiful, than I have ever seen before
Dark black hair, framing a face of alabaster skin, she makes it a point to stop and talk to me
I tell her I'm an artist, let's go back to my place before it really starts to pour
She says alright, but there is a strange far away look in her eyes, as she continues to talk to me.

We arrive at my place, I'm so taken with her beauty, I tell her, she I would like to paint
She agrees, taking a seat, so her portrait I may paint, seems I found the inspiration I need
For hours I work, until I have a portrait of her, in which she looks like an angel or a saint
She loves the work, but says she is very tired, she even feels faint.

I leave the room to get her some water, leaving her all alone
When I return she is gone, looking like she was never here
No trace of her, this chills me to the very bone
I think I created my masterpiece, but the woman, was she ever here?
