Yes GIFs should be added, but they could easily become an overwhelming nusance if this place becomes flooded with junk people download/steal and post.. GIFs need a special place, really ORIGINAL stuff needs a special place, but that ain't gonna happen.

Its a scripting code issue. Before the interface converts the file into a flv, it could put GIFs into their own catagory. The same script can prevent JPGs from being loaded into the animations folder. SWF files, since they don't have a thumbnail, can also have their own catagory. I don't write script. I'm strictly a graphics guy, not an IT nerd.

...How to get people to interact here...and be nice about it??? That's easy but quite impossible. LOL There are other sites dedicated to animation, motion graphics, and every animation software used. These places are far superior compare to this pirate's haven. The tags are true and the membership is filtered and the forums are pretty much on topic. My problem is, since I belong to these other forums, why bother with this one? I guess the answer is that I have no expectations here and that I am totally apathetic about the eSnips community. Its not my problem and I won't be volunteering anything than my usual advice/opinion/critique.

One of the major differences between Pros and hobbyists is the use of critique. In the professional world, the critique on every project is nit-picky and heart stomping. A lot of artists can't take it, especially hobbyists who do not need to refine their work. No other field except politics invites being torn apart. This and other artistic forums are innocently set up by good meaning people who probably don't flame on and on. Who if they don't like something, usual skip it and go to the next. They would never be a good editor. I'm interested to see how long you last Karen. Over in Photography our buddy Dale (Gone) has seen the (Prince of) Light. LOL, muhahahaah...

At the end of last year Lonnie had asked me what I thought about having a GIF Community on eSnips (Long before I had even been considered as a Moderator)
I replied saying that I thought it would be a great idea. But heard no more about it.
Since taking the post of Moderator, two weeks ago, I have been in talks with other Mods and eSnips Admin about the best place for GIFS. Photography is not the correct place for them. So it has been decided, for now, they should be tagged Animation or Graphic Design.
Putting them in a Community of their own has been considered as a possible future solution.

BUT..as you say, an ideal solution, I agree, would be for them to be automtically uploaded to their own category via the scripting code.
Maybe this is something that eSnips could look into. But, of course,It won't happen over night.
Please be assured that I am trying to get the tagging situation sorted out.
I have informed Admin of an observation I've noticed with regards to tagging GIF too.
So please be patient. I also want it all to run smoothly. I will continue to work with other Mods and Admin towards a solution to better tagging.

It's clear that you have a very good knowledge of Animations and therefore have the opportunity to upload and display your art on these more superior sites. You maybe apathetic about eSnips. But many of us aren't.
I and others see eSnips as a platform for showing our art through the stages of improving our graphic skills.(We all have to start somewhere right?) For fun, yes, as a hobby. Also as a way of meeting and sharing interests with friends from all over the world.

Not only you..but I'm sure many others, will be interested to see how long I last Tiger. Who knows..another day, week, month..I can only try my best. If it isn't good enough I'm sure someone will soon tell me.
Maybe I might decide it's too much hassle. Or eSnips may decide that I'm not right for the post. Whatever happens I'll not lose too much sleep over it. It's a voluntery post. I was asked and I accepted. We'll see how it goes.

Glad to see you have the right "tude" Karen. You get a gold star! GIFs aside, I also wonder about other art mediums, like tattoo. Does that go under graphic design? or photography?... same for scrimshaw and engraving in general. How do I tag photos of my plastic models that I've painted. Its a conundrum.

I don't see why your tattoos wouldn't come under Graphic Design.
If you took the photos then tag photography too(which you have)
But I don't think the 1st 5 in your Skin Deep etc..Folder should be tagged Graphic Design because they're not of designs are they? They're photography.
I looked at your scrimshaws..very good..it's graphic art. So tagging Graphic will put them into Graphic Design.
The same for your painted models.
Yes it really is a conundrum if we break everything down into accurate categories etc..But we can only tag with what we've got.
By the way..It is a lot easier to go through your folders the way you've put them all in your profile. Maybe you should do a thread explaining to others how to do it.

I changed those Graphic Design tags to Photography as per your suggestion. I guess I was lazy and got carried away cut and pasting, LOL.

A Thread on front page layout/design??!! LOL.. I was copying you remember? LOL .. and all I did is just put the stuff I want to showcase in the page description... like you do! The only difference is that I linked them to the folders.. and made them smaller so they would all fit without scrolling down the page, standard black background for showing off graphics better (eSnips white background is great for text and non-thumbnailed files.. but washes out dramatic pictures). Other than that, its all you baby!

in my atempt to add some tunage to me site, and trying to get it to auto play, I deleted a bunch of code... and in so doing, changed the whole format of my site.. I don't know what I deleted (I guess I should have cut and pasted it in notebook..tsk tsk) so I can't fix it... But I moved all the annoying ads to the bottom, and made the whole site auto resize!!! Check it out... sorry, no step by step...LOL Hail Chaos!

... the tune still doesn't play all by itself...grrrr (and yes I clicked the autoplay to "Yes") ..stupid eSnip widget grrrr

..part of being an "artist" is turning one's screw-ups into "art". LOL

Well... I never claimed to be a techi-code I.T. nerd, just a graphic artist. So if I screw up on the tech stuff, you'll have to cut me some slack. I suk at it and have no interest in being better at it than I need to be to make the screw-up look good LOL
