Dear All, I've just deleted about 15 stupid messages and am still faced with more. Please get this fixed, I can't find out if anyone has left any sensible comments in my files! I should think it would be fairly simple to identify these type of addresses as they have full stops in them. Could not every such address be forwarded to a reviewer for checking out?
With best wishes,
Spider dlb.

Yet another variation of this "Nell Suarez" spammer:

http://www.esnips.com/user/nells.ua.rez.r.t-nellsuarezrt

"...I have read your manuscript with boundless delight. If we were to publish your paper, it would be impossible for us to publish any work of lower standard. And as it is unthinkable that in the next 1000 years we shall see its equal, we are, to our regret, compelled to return your divine composition...".

Suarez is trying a new tack now. From empty, content free and presumably bogus accounts he is offering compliments on very local political humour that he is unlikely to really get. I expect he will come back and edit them into spam later. I shall let you know.

Something just doesn't feel right about it though... I mean: isn't Spam supposed to sell something? Usually there is some kind of product that the spammer wants us to buy, but what Mr. Suarez does is just spamming for the sake of spamming and this, my friends, is a whole lot more brainless than the concept of man-made global warming!

A silver solution would be to add the option to accept or delete new comments. If you accept them, they will be permanently added to the file.

A bronze solution [ ], but one that would be much more realizable, would be to extend the list "Recent comments in your files" on each users main page, so that the spam cannot clog it up (so to speak). As with "Private messages from other users" and "Recent comments in your profile" there already is a button called "more" which gives you access to all of the comments made by others (new and old), but only in these two categories. And this is why I think it would be relatively easy to implement this for the other two comment-overview-lists as well. For if one has got 12 of those spam comments (and this comments-in-your-files list displays only 5) the user probably won't even notice the other 7 (ok, he will notice them later, but ideally it should be possible to delete them all at once.) Thus, my vote goes to the 'more'-button for "Recent comments in your files" to display more comments and not only 5!!! So that the people who get a whole lot of those messages will at least be able to delete all of them at once in the easiest way possible (until a better solution comes along). Who is with me?
