I'm getting back to my roots (or rather the technology's roots) in a few of my animations, since I jumped into computer animation once it was healthily on its way, I didn't have to struggle through its early years. But now, I'm going back to those days by developing this character, my rolling robot, the RX-426.

He's created in 3DS-Max and is animated primarily using FFD transforms for that slightly cartoon look, and as an exploration of the original means of computer animation, before bones and other more complex rigs and meshes were available. I wanted to try creating a deformable, mechanical character for this test, to see if it would work aesthetically.

So take a look at my textured test at: http://www.esnips.com/r/hmfl/doc/ac6a9d38-a54a-4cca-93cf-7d52ee0f0b8e/Rolling-Robot-test-3

Or the original animation test of the character concept at: http://www.esnips.com/doc/5aaaba4c-2bae-40d9-81db-01b38f324bce/Roller-Robot-Test

And let me know what you think!
