Tattoo is graphic design
but is it also Painting...?
It is pigment in/on parchment in the finest tradition.
Example: http://www.esnips.com/doc/227f2d30-ea2c-4ae4-b155-8af7104e23aa/Egyptian-God-Tattoo-Timeline

Scrimshaw, same question:
Engraving on ivory using pigment to highlight the etching.
Are lithographs, etchings and engravings home here?
Example: http://www.esnips.com/doc/9bac2337-eac9-44a4-940c-d5db6a4ba082/Battle-of-Trafalgar-by-Tiger-Leahu

I see lots of pastels and pencil work.

Is well applied facial makeup painting?
..its certainly art without being too dada or absurdist, but in danger of going there ... then again there are Clowns... whose faces are trademarked commercially...

I assume Painting does NOT include digital CGI, but rather something crafted by hand.. something more than a mouse click and a download. And it IS something more than flat canvas and pigment.

Comments and other qwerky examples welcome

You raise a very interesting subject with tattoos I am not against them but I do feel that some are inappropriate especially on females ..
no I am not against women having tattoos but the sight of them on older women is not has appealing has when they had them done .

Before I get pilloried for my comment it is just my opinion

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me send money.

Well, Very interesting question indeed. I have a similar question what about the paintings we do on Mspaint. Are they digital art or are they paintings?

Hard work pays in the long run.

Hmmmm...A very interesting question Tiger.

I think that your tattoos and Scrimshaws definatley belong in Graphic Design...They're graphic art aren't they?
The same as your ms paintings Prasad.

I visited your new video Tiger and saw that you tagged Graphic and Paintings. Your files can only appear in 2 communities on eSnips so I suppose it depends what audience you want to attract to your art. You could also have tagged video.(Was great by the way)

Prasad why shouldn't ms paint be tagged paintings?...It's digital painting isn't it?

Any more thoughts on this?

LOL... well then Ian, just your opinion is sexist LOLOL.. not you of course..LOL... what's the keyboard equivalent of foot in mouth?

As for my friend Prasad's digital paintings.. I am assuming that painting was refering to NON CGI (computer generated imagery) so I excluded digital graphic art... there are so many places for that already. I can appreciate why those/we elitist painters would want something exclusive to hand crafted object d'art. The only thing that resembles "painting" in MSPaint is the marketing of the interface: and the name.. some buttons with brush pictures and names... all virtual. Not Handi-craft. Even so, MSPaint is more handicrafted than lets say, IceRain's fractals. They are beautiful, but nothing more than a mouse click and hot software (I don't think she's programming Mandelbrot's formula into machine code... not that I'm sexist for using the word she.. well, I am actually, but my stated opinions usually aren't LOL)

Both Prasad and IceRain present ORIGINAL art and presentation/editing skills to whatever degree... but I don't think its Painting.

As for Graphic Design, even Painting is graphic design IF its something more than the monochrome side of a barn or a fence. Nasty ugly graffitti is painting, but white on picket is not. If we exclude the white paint on the fence from painting, it would be tough to include Prasad's eye candy.

Obvious point: ALL paintings etc HERE are also photographs...or video.

PS/EDIT: And lest I seem not to find merit, let me say for IceRain: she is an excellent editor and only bothers to put up ORIGINAL quality stuff that's easy on the eye, and that reflects on her quality as an artist/critic and self esteem. (...all artists have opinions that are always interpreted as critique, and see symbols in all they hear and see...taste..etc. its the nature of the craft.) The collection is fun to look at and read Wikipedia on the Mandelbrot Set at the same time... "How far into the valley is this seahorse..Sweet Julia!" and other such absurdist mathamatics.... I hear Newton groan.
