Hi DJs!

We are really jazzed by this contest, and the fact that it came from you….I have a couple of questions for you all based on what has been said in the forum, and what we can do for you here – I'm putting them in different threads so as to have some control over all the info I get.

Voting: We can set up a voting system where everyone can vote, not only registered eSnips users…..and start the voting from when the submission deadline ends....even a widget you could put on a blog somewhere else....there could be a set period of time for voting, and then another phase where the top 5 get a 24 hour voting countdown, or something like that – what do you say?

Give us your thoughts in the next day or two – so we can get things here started !

First I think the voting should be esnippers only. When voting is allowed by the masses via internet, the numbers won't ring true. I say one member one vote. If they want to vote they should become a member.

So,
you dont think it would be fun to have promotion,
and anyone who wants to can vote - maybe using a widget on your page, or something like that? im just throwing out ideas here.....

Lonnie please flesh out what you mean by "Promotion". Are we talking a web vote as opposed to esnippers only? I have my reservations about that. On one hand it will bring more traffic to the website, but the actual contest numbers will be somewhat skewed. Picture this I have 3,000 email contacts in my address book, I do a mass email telling them to vote for me in the contest. If one third acquiesce to my request then I have a built in cushion of 1,000 votes where as the next DJ does the same thing but he only has 300 contacts in his address book, and only one fourth respond to his request. He only gets 75 cushion votes. There are so many scenarios where a web vote can be manipulated. If they want to vote they have to become a member. Although this will not totally prevent vote manipulation it is a very good safeguard against it. This should about your creativity not about who you know.

Again, agreed. It's better to drive traffic to the actual contest, instead of just asking all your friends to vote for you. No matter what, there will impossible to prevent all kinds of vote manipulation, but having to register will help I think...

We can all promote the contest, and maybe even say that please vote for me, but the widget should be to the actual contest, so that everyone can decide for them self who they will vote for.... hopefully based on the mix they enjoy and like and think is the best...

I do agree with Jamlover on this. Creat a widget for the actuall contest. People will then have the freedom to listen to all of the mixes befor voting. As for opening the voting to non esnips members, this can becom Bias. Have a way to limit one vote per person. If they have to become a member than so be it.

The two-week deadline will definitely workout for submitting your mixes, along with the rest of the month for the public to place their votes. I like Lonnie's Idea about having the top 5 get a 24 hour voting countdown. Great Idea. That will work.

I have a question about voting... how are votes verified? Are they matched against IP addresses, or what?

The reason I ask is that I've been able to vote for my own track twice... I voted once on the main competition page where all the entries are, and then later accidentally clicked the banner ad on my entry page (and automatically hit "enter" when it asked if I was sure..damn reflexes) and the second vote was recorded.

My husband has also voted for my track on the same computer, but using a different login and browser.

So yeah, unless there's some sort of backend process to filter out duplicate votes, it worries me that it would be fairly easy to cheat. :-|

Hi -

essentially, and without going into the technicalities, there is one vote per person.
you can see from the results that there isnt a mass abuse of the voting system. im guessing what hapened to you was just pure internet luck.

So far I can only see one person manipulating the vote but I am not too concerned about him. Then again I may be wrong.
