I wonder if people have problems understanding what they are reading. The competition clearly states that:

1. Submission is limited to one original track per DJ
2. The maximum length of the track should be 15 minutes.
3. The track should be in MP3 format.

I've seen other formats then mp3 submitted. I've seen track exceeding the 15 minute rule. I've seen people submitting more than one entry.

So, what do we do? This is a friendly contest, all about the music and the good vibe. I feel that we should honor this contest by trying to also respect the rules of the contest. I'm not going to say we should disqualify these entries that violate the rules. After all it's just a friendly competition.

But still, this competition has it's set of rules, and we all should follow them. Or is it so, that we really don't care about the rules at all?

Just a question to think about.

oh, we care about the rules....

people who have posted work other than their own, have been asked to remove it.

people who have put in other than mp3, the mix will not be used - and they have been informed.

people who have sent in more than one mix, have been asked to choose one, and if they dont, well, i gues we'll have to choose it for them.

Yo jamlover, got a technical question. If one takes someoone else's track and alters it here and there a bit, can it be reffered to as "creating an original track"? Where is the boundary between creating and copying? At what point can U call it "my own original track"? Let's say I pick a track and play it backwards ;) Still someone else's work or already mine? Sry if my question is stupid, but I'd like to kno the other's oppinion on that. Isn't "creating" about making something out of "nothing"? I mean let's take a heap of bricks and make a new house, not just redecorate the old ones.

For example, I heard some mixes of the Loituma's piece, but mostly, the whole mixing was just speeding it up and adding some drums, that's all. Here's what I did, maybe U get my idea.

Lonnie et al.

I have been trying to re-add my trance mix, with the reduced size, and haven't had any luck.
the progressive house mix was already uploaded, so I was also trying use that mix. unfortunately, because of the way the track is tagged it looks like they're both screwed.

Until I can upload the old file again, consider me out of the competition.

Ben, try removing the track from your eSnips folder and reload the reduced one but rename it first.

Actually I think this is a good question. When does it stop being a copy and become your own original work. Take a look at the charts.... A lot of the tracks, are actually quite old. They have taken i.e. an 80's hit, reworked it, updated the sound, changed some pieces, and added completely new vocal/rap (that has nothing to do with the original), and is released as a new original to the masses. The old guys like myself, actually remembers the actual hit, and is able to notice this fact. But the youngsters, they don't have a clue in most cases, that it's an old recording surfacing again.

Also, just changing a few bits and pieces, adding some other layers of sound and drums, are often called remixes. The remix is your own original work, but based on another original work. This is very difficult. I guess there have been made and still are some legal issues concerning this matter. Usually it all ends in simply one thing..... money!
I won't go into the politics, this is nor the time or the place.
Original track in this matter (the spin off contest) is a mix done by yourself! If you where best friends with Danny Tenaglia, you could go to him and say, hey, please make a dj mix, 15 minutes High class house music. And then upload it, and enter the contest under your own name, just as if it was yourself who mixed it...That mix would most definitely not be your own original work....

Okay, you understand me...?

(It seems odd to have to describe original music and remixes to someone when I've been in the industry for over 10 years; but I guess if no one else explains it to the up and coming musicians, they may not know. Good on yah jamlover)

Urm, I've been unable to upload my shortened trance mix, even after trying a coupe of different ways.
But, the proggy house I did manage to upload on Saturday is still there, so if it's ok with Lonnie and you guys, I would like to submit that instead. I don't like having to muck things about so much but it's the only thing I have that's short that's on esnips right now.

Here's the link if you want to have a listen.

Argh! Talk about frustrating. I only found out about this competition yesterday because I haven't been on here in a while - but I did manage to put something together quickly...

My ISP has been having ISSUES for the last couple of days, so my connection has been dodgy.
When it finally came back, and I started the upload, I realised I'd exported the mp3 from Audacity without changing the sample rate to 22,050 first (hello chipmunks) so I had to export it all over again (this is about forty minutes ago, at 11.55 pm PDT

...and now it's still uploading. I think I've missed the deadline.

Oh and, the upload keeps failing after a few minutes, saying "[filename] already exists", when I've already deleted the same-named file from my folder before I attempt the upload again. I don't know what else to do...

Can I still sneak in, given that I at least *started* uploading the file prior to midnight??

Or will I have to suck it up and quit whinging?
